Kristen A. Roorbach, MS, Ph.D., LPC
Hi, I’m Kristen—a child and family therapist passionate about helping kids and parents feel more connected, understood, and supported. I work with children ages 3 to 23 and their families, using a relationship-based, brain-informed approach that’s grounded in the latest research and a deep respect for each family’s unique story. My work blends Family Systems and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with brain-based strategies and developmental science. I’m also trained in Positive Behavior Support, Behavior Modification, Trauma-Informed CBT, Functional Behavior Assessment, and early childhood special education. Whether your child is struggling with anxiety, big emotions, school issues, or family transitions, I’m here to help guide the process with compassion and evidence-based care. Before founding The Loop Center, I worked as a Visiting Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Richmond and as a Research Associate at UVA’s Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning, where I helped develop behavior interventions and national tools for supporting quality early childhood education. I’ve also written a book on The Opportunity Gap, created a teaching manual for Trauma-Informed Classrooms, and shared my work nationally through podcasts and professional speaking. I hold a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology, a Master’s in Clinical Counseling, and master’s-level training in Special Education. I currently teach at the University of Virginia's Batten School for Public Policy, where I lead courses on poverty and education and special education policy. Outside the therapy room, you can find me hiking the Blue Ridge Mountains with my husband, children and step-children, and two sweet dogs. If you're looking for a therapist who brings both clinical expertise and a deep commitment to relationship-based care, I’d love to connect. |
Elise Wise, MA, Resident in Counseling Welcoming New Clients Starting May 1 Hi, I’m Elise—a Resident in Counseling at The Loop Center, and I’m passionate about helping children, teens, young adults, and families find connection, clarity, and confidence as they work through life’s challenges. I provide support for emotional, behavioral, and social struggles, including anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem issues, and family transitions. My approach is strengths-based and collaborative, meaning I focus on what’s working and build from there—always in partnership with you and your family. In our work together, I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and expressive therapies to tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs. I also work closely with parents to help foster resilience, healthy coping strategies, and emotional well-being for their children and teens. I earned my B.A. in Psychology from George Mason University and my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University, a CACREP-accredited program. I’m currently practicing under the supervision of Kathleen Padalino, LPC, and am mentored by Dr. Kristen Roorbach here at The Loop Center. Outside of the office, I love spending time with my husband and our two kids, exploring the outdoors, and discovering new coffee shops around Charlottesville. If you're looking for a supportive, compassionate therapist for your child or family, I’d be honored to connect. |
